Facilitation and Meeting Support

Company-wide, TechLaw’s experience includes facilitating and participating in more than 1,000 large meetings, workshops, presentations, focus groups, summits, and formal presentations with a wide variety of experts, including federal, state, and local agencies, land redevelopment authorities, private sector organizations, non-profits, the general public, political leaders, school representatives, and state and local government officials, through our support of EPA, states agencies, and local environmental, education, and transportation agencies. We have supported government clients during more than 100 public meetings, often in conjunction with technical support for a site. Our experience coordinating and facilitating a diverse group of stakeholders includes tasks related to all phases of meeting preparation, setup, technical assistance during meetings, and pre- and post-meeting duties that include data research, handout preparation, PowerPoint presentations, conducting opening and closing sessions, note-taking, facilitating break-out sessions, analysis, and progress report writing.

Projects

Elmhurst Community – Oakland, CA
TechLaw worked with the Elmhurst Community so that neighbors were able to show the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) that immediate action was needed through collaborative sample collection. Through this vehicle, we were able to evaluate concerns about contaminated surface soils associated with a metal plating facility. The DTSC was then able to prioritize resources to address community concerns. Action was taken, and the site has been cleaned up and is awaiting redevelopment.
Community Health Initiative – North Richmond, Iron Triangle, Parchester Village, and
San Pablo, CA
Through bi-monthly community meetings and negotiation with multiple stakeholders, Richmond air quality issues are being highlighted and prioritized for planning and mitigation purposes. As a result of these planning sessions, the community has convened the very first Richmond Environmental Symposium; conducted workshops on integrated pest management and proper pesticide use; monitored air quality in homes; and developed a strategy in conjunction with BAAQMD to address diesel buses at schools and retrofitting diesel buses and garbage trucks. As a result of this effort, the garbage haulers in Richmond made it a high priority to retrofit their fleet.
